In this post, you can ref key activities of Junior translator in details. Based on this activity list, you can set up daily activities, weekly activities, monthly activities.

I. List of Junior translator duties:

  1. Get familiar with project contents prior to start translating: product information, assist demos, SW auto-training.
  2. Software: Translate, review, perform language test in running program and proofread/enter proofreader’s corrections, (implement local review comments).
  3. Help and Documentation: Translate and review, verify text against running software, proofread/enter proofreader’s corrections, (implement local review comments), check screen dumps, illustrations and hyphenation, functional help/HTML testing.
  4. Enter questions in the question file/client database and implement client answers in files.
  5. Maintain terminology databases and translation memories.
  6. Create projects wrap-up reports.
  7. In downtime periods: review and structure past project information for future use, keep up-to-date with technical and linguistic developments (read industry publications, web research…), help other language groups or departments with functional tasks.
  8. Every 3 months, review last performance goals and objectives results with Dir Ops and set medium/long-term expectations.

II. List of Junior translator qualifications

  1. Excellent linguistic skills in English and native language.
  2. Work as team member to ensure each project is finished as scheduled and according to the highest possible technical/linguistic standards.
  3. Use effectively translation and terminology management tools.
  4. Attend kick-off and participate in project meetings.
  5. Relate linguistic and quality issues (vs time, client or general process constraints) to other production groups and Dir Ops.
  6. Report to Dir Ops general process and individual-related issues.
  7. Cooperate with Dir Ops towards process improvement or cooperate on enquiries/forms from Dir Ops towards process improvement.
